Making calls using a smart phone can be done using the voice assistant. So learn how to do this as soon as possible, even if you don’t yet need to.

Get the Google Assistant or Amazon Echo or other smart speaker device/system. ASAP! Learn to use it. If possible buy one of the larger devices which include a screen. You could always add small cheaper ones around the house.

Contact your local council to find out about alternative technologies that could help you. Alzheimer’s Society locally might also help you with this. There are a huge amount of useful gadgets out there which you should know about, even if you don’t yet need one. But make sure you don’t pay more than you need to.

Very soon after diagnosis, learn how to use a tablet and smart phone. iPads are easiest, but most expensive. If possible, get a young person to teach you.

If your sight is poor, set up your iPad with special Apps and settings for visual impairment – for example to scan and read documents.
